What you should ask when interviewing for entry level jobs

Asking potential candidates fun and creative interview questions can be a great way to create additional engagement. Questions that can catch potential employees off-guard can reveal a different personality type and ambition which may help you decide who will be the better cultural fit for your business.

Here are 5 creative and fun interview questions you can ask to see how your candidate thinks on their feet and whether they’ll be a good cultural fit for you.

1. Tell me what fun at work looks like to you

If you strive for a fun working environment then opening with this question can give you an early indicator if the interviewee will be the right cultural fit for your business. This question could give you insight into how best to create engagement and enjoyment for them in their potential new role.

2. If there was a movie about your life, what would be the name and who would play your part?

This is a great question that will reveal various layers of the candidate’s personality. How creative are they with the movie name? Do they just use their own name or something completely different? Do they chose an actress or actor who they feel is similar to them in looks/personality or someone aspirational? Feel free to ask them why they’ve chosen them to get a little more depth.

3. If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive who would that be and why?

Asking this question can reveal the type of people the potential employee likes to surround themselves with and what their interests are outside of the office. Again ask why they’ve chosen the person as their motivation may reveal their curiosity, ambition and or type of entertainment they like.

4. What is your most prized possession, and why?

Is it a family heirloom or something they had to work hard for to afford? Is it an object that holds sentimental value or something practical? Their answer will reveal a lot about the candidate’s personality and what’s important to them.

5. What’s the biggest lesson you have learnt to date?

From which area of their life are they drawing their answer? How much self-awareness and reflection are they showing in answering the question? Or does nothing come to mind at all?

We are confident that these questions will help you to get to know your candidate’s personality a bit more than the usual and help you determine whether they would be a good fit for your organisation.
